Learner/Participant Guide and Job Aid

Below is my conception of the second unit in an introductory SAP basic navigation course. I included the introduction to the entire course to set the stage for the unit I present here, as well as its place in the overall flow of the course. I envision the course workbook to contain five units in total. If I were developing the entire course workbook, as a step in the diffusion process I would start with a unit on why the organization is implementing something new, in this case SAP; the benefits to the company the change will bring; and the benefits to people’s individual jobs the change will bring. When adult learners are faced with learning a new system like this, it’s natural for them to feel apprehension, fear, and perhaps a sense of disempowerment at having to start at the beginning with something new and not be an expert any more. Including a unit on why the change is being made is important for these reasons. Units 3, 4, and 5 would address the topics of Favorites, customizing the system to the user’s liking, and getting SAP help.

Also, as I have learned from working with clients, adult learners love cheat sheets. Below is a quick trifold guide to SAP buttons and icons. I leverage the notion that some buttons, like Save and Print, are universal, and hopefully that gives a new learner a comfort level when approaching the SAP user interface. Other buttons are unique to SAP, of course.
