IDE 621 Principles of Instruction and Learning

Students gain knowledge, skills and experiences with a variety of information and communication technologies relevant to educational contexts, create instructional materials and resources, and examine critical issues related to information technologies used in instructional settings.

I’m not going to lie: I was terrified of this course. I got a C in PSY 100 as an undergrad almost 50 years ago, and had not touched psychology since. I often felt inadequately prepared compared to the others in the class. It was a struggle for me, but I kept up as best I could. To build the 621 Knowledge Base, it helped to be able to refer to works by alumni of the program. Looking back on it, the development of the objects in the knowledge base was a great way to pull academic concepts and graphic representations of those concepts together, a skill that will benefit me in the long run when I go back to the workforce. I expect to be thinking much more about adult learning theory when executing the first D in ADDIE, design, but also when doing the actual development.
